Vanpile’s scope of work was to provide maintenance dredging at Kinder Morgan’s Vancouver Wharves location, moving approximately 1300m3 of contaminated material.
The maintenance dredging was completed along Berths 1, 4, and 5 at Kinder Morgan’s Vancouver Wharves location. The contaminated dredged material was placed by clamshell onto a small, plastic lined flat scow. As decant water was not permitted back into Burrard Inlet, a key component was to create a completely sealed holding platform:
After initial drainage of approximately 12 hours, dredged material was transerred by clamshell to haul trucks dockside, where it was to be stockpiled separately from that of Berths 4, and 5. Upon acceptable levels of decant, all materials were then hauled to Sumas Remediation’s Burnaby treatment facility.
