VanPile’s scope of work for the Caopas Terminal rehabilitation consisted of:

  • Installation of one new berthing dolphin;
  • Installation of three new quadrant dolphins;
  • Placement and installation of 66 metres of quadrant beam;
  • Installation of three aluminum walkway systems;
  • Construction of an 8-metre long access trestle for a 220-ton crane.

Piles were 914 mm drilled through riprap and then driven with a diesel hammer to refusal. Length reached approximately 33.5 metres long.

Each of the dolphins had a cast-in-place pile cap. New sections of crane beam were set in place, connected and then placed into service with the radial ship loader transiting to a portion of the new rail. The old rail was removed and the remaining new beam set in place.

The work was completed while the existing damaged terminal was in operation.
